When big name companies are looking for the latest lighting technology for their state-of-the-art buildings, there’s a good chance that they’ll go to Simmtronic.

Simmtronic, based in Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire, has been designing, manufacturing and supplying hi-tech lighting control systems for commercial developments for many years, building up a roster of blue chip clients occupying prestigious offices in Canary Wharf, the Greater London Authority building, the striking glass Gherkin building and many other high profile developments in the City of London. The company works mainly in London and the Southeast, but its 60 staff are involved in schemes across the UK, including Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Although Simmtronic works all over the country, its accountants are much closer to home. HB Accountants, also based in Hoddesdon, look after the company’s end of year accounts, audit and payroll, deal with the directors’ personal tax matters and provide expert advice as and when required, as well as providing updates on relevant financial issues.

HB Accountants took over from Simmtronic’s original accountants, BDO Stoy Hayward – one of the biggest names in UK accounting.

Opting for HB Accountants was a simple process, as Simmtronic’s Ian Moir-Porteous explains: “I have a friend who is an accountant and he recommended HB Accountants. I trusted his recommendation and we didn’t look elsewhere.”

That decision has proved to be the right choice. Ian says: “The arrangement works very well and we have negotiated a fixed fee package deal, to cover all HB Accountants’ work – rather than paying for each item individually – which we feel provides good value for money.”

Simmtronic has grown “massively” in recent years and HB Accountants have kept pace with the new work that that has entailed. Simmtronic has also built up excellent working relationships with different members of the HB Accountants’ team.

Ian sums up: “We are very happy with both HB Accountants’ overall service, and with the people who look after us.”
