Karen Chase officially joined HB Accountants back in 1998. It was the year when Buffy the Vampire Slayer was all the rage, Titanic won 11 Oscars and a furby was the toy of choice! Karen had already gained an Accountancy and Finance degree but was unsure where she wanted to work – many accountancy firms seemed grey and impersonal. She was attracted to HB because many of our 10-strong audit team were of a similar age and Karen could see that there was both the opportunity to learn more about auditing as well as enjoy a social life.
After passing her ACCA exams (first time!) Karen first became a manager before taking on a Directors role in 2014. Audits remain her passion – it must be her organised and analytical mind!
Karen is an advocate for apprenticeships and recently the kickstart scheme and during her time at HB has offered training opportunities to young people looking for a career in accountancy, business and marketing. One of these recruits was Catherine, who joined HB from school. Catherine is still with HB and is now a manager herself.
Karen is also passionate about networking, supporting local charities, and being an active member of the Hoddesdon and Hertfordshire community. She sits on the Hoddesdon BID (Business Improvement District) board, has founded countless networking events including the always popular ‘HB Ladies Networking Lunch’ and ‘Ambition Broxbourne’. She initiated HB’s Finance for School Leavers Guide which aims to empower young people in their decision making after leaving school and is always looking for new ways to support TeamHB’s chosen charity, Teens Unite.
