COVID19: Latest lockdown timeline for retailers – can your business reopen on 1st June?

PM Boris Johnson has announced the latest timeline for the lifting of COVID19 lockdown regulations for England – the two dates on the timeline are 1st June and 15th June – but it is not back to business for all businesses just yet.

Which businesses will be allowed to reopen on Monday 1st June?

For the retail sector, outdoor markets and car showrooms will be able to reopen from Monday 1st June, provided they are able to meet the COVID19 secure guidelines to protect shoppers and workers & provided the Government’s five tests are met

  • outdoor markets
  • car showrooms

These businesses are allowed to reopen from Monday 15th June?

You could see the lockdown lifting for shoe shops, fashion shops, auctioneers, bookshops, photography studios, electronics retails and indoor markets on Monday 15th June. Again subject to the Government’s five tests being met and COVID19 secure guidelines to protect shoppers and workers being adhered to.

  • shoe shops
  • fashion shops
  • auctioneers
  • bookshops
  • photography studios
  • electronics retails
  • indoor markets

COVID19: What businesses are remaining closed AFTER Monday 15th June?

Other businesses such as hairdressers, nail bars and beauty salons, and the hospitality sector (restaurants, cafes, theatres, cinemas, bowling alleys and pubs/gyms, etc), will have to wait and remain closed to the public until further notice.

COVID19: When will Hospitality venues be scheduled to reopen?

There has been suggestions from the Environment Secretary, George Eustice, that we could see a possible reopening of pubs in early July. This is subject to the epidemiology supporting such a move.
